Delete Facebook account
Deleting your Facebook profile is a permanent action, so before you begin, it's highly recommended to download a copy of your data (photos, posts, etc.) if you want to keep it.
Facebook also offers deactivation, which is temporary and allows you to reactivate your account later. Deleting, on the other hand, is final.
The steps for permanently deleting your Facebook profile are generally consistent across the desktop website and the mobile app.
Steps to Permanently Delete Your Facebook Profile
* Go to Settings:
* On Desktop: Click your profile picture (or down arrow) in the top-right corner, then select Settings & Privacy > Settings.
* On Mobile App: Tap the menu icon (three lines or your profile picture), then tap the gear icon (\text{\u2699}) for Settings & Privacy > Settings.
* Access Accounts Center:
* Look for and select Accounts Center (it's usually at the top of the Settings page).
* If you don't see it immediately, you may need to tap See more in Accounts Center.
* Navigate to Deletion Options:
* In the Accounts Center, select Personal details (under Account settings).
* Select Account ownership and control.
* Select Deactivation or deletion.
* Choose Your Profile and Deletion:
* Select the Facebook profile you want to delete.
* Select the option for Delete account (make sure you choose this, not "Deactivate account").
* Click Continue.
* Follow Prompts and Confirm:
* You may be asked to select a reason for deletion and will be given information on what you will lose (like Messenger access and all your content).
* Click Continue.
* You will be prompted to enter your password to confirm the permanent deletion request.
* Click Delete Account.
Important Notes on Deletion:
* 30-Day Grace Period: Your account is scheduled for permanent deletion, but Facebook typically gives you a 30-day grace period. If you log back into your account within these 30 days, you will have the option to cancel the deletion.
* Permanent Deletion: After the 30-day period expires, your account and all its contents will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
* Messenger: Deleting your Facebook account will also delete your Messenger access and messages.
